It is going to be 2 years since the war between Gaza and Israel began and still the peace agreement is not visible far and wide. The situation between the famine and the hunger in Gaza is that the Israeli army itself seems to be getting tired of attacking. According to a Times of Israel report, Israel’s Chief of Defense Staff Lt Gen Ike Zamir has urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept the swapping deal of hostages with Hamas.
The head of the Israeli military (IDF), while visiting Israel’s Haifa naval base, revealed that Netanyahu had a deal to swap hostages. “There is a [hostage] deal on the table, we need to accept it,” General Jamir said.
Zamir also said that his stand is in line with the desire of the people of Israel that “a comprehensive agreement should be reached in which 50 hostages are brought back, and the war is ended.”
How many Israeli hostages near Hamas now?
According to the Anadolu agency, Israel estimates that Hamas has kept about 50 hostages, of which 20 are believed to be alive. Israel, on the other hand, has detained more than 10,800 Palestinians. The rights groups have accused them of torturing them inside prisons and neglecting their medical negligence.
Last Friday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz approved military plans for the capture of the city of Gaza, promising heavy bombings and displacement of residents.
It is worth mentioning that in October 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel, 1,219 people died, mostly civilians. According to data from the Ministry of Health (UNI) in Hamas-run Gaza (which the United Nations considers credible) at least 62,700 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s counter-attack, most of whom are civilians.
Last year, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu and former defense minister Yove Gallant over war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
