India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached China after completing his visit to Japan. Soon before, PM Modi arrived in China’s Tianjin city. He was accorded a warm welcome at the airport. PM Modi is on a visit to China after 7 years. PM Modi will attend the SCO summit in China. He will also meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. A video of PM Modi’s welcome on his arrival in Tianjin has also surfaced. Several senior diplomats from China are seen welcoming PM Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a red carpet at the landing of a plane in Tianjin city of China. Many Chinese women artists are seen dancing to PM Modi. On his arrival in China, PM Modi wrote in a post on social media platform X, “During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, he reached Tianjin in China a waiting for in-depth discussions and meetings with the leaders of various countries.”

Earlier, Modi and Xi Jinping had met at the BRICS summits in Kazakhstan of Russia, in 2024 and 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Last week, the Chinese Communist Party’s Politburo member and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited India to attend the 24th meeting of special representatives of border affairs.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China comes at a time when the whole world is struggling with US President Donald Trump’s tariff policies. Trump has imposed 50 per cent tariffs on India and 30 per cent on China.
- The SCO summit is scheduled to be held in China from August 31 to September 1. It will be attended by leaders from more than 20 countries.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had on Friday attended the 15th India-Japan summit with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo, which was aimed at taking the bilateral relations between the two countries to new heights.
India is an active and constructive member of the SCO. During our presidency, we have presented new ideas in the field of innovation, health, and cultural exchanges. India is committed to addressing common challenges with the SCO member countries and promoting regional cooperation.”

“I am confident that my visits to Japan and China will help in advancing our national interests and priorities and will promote cooperation in regional and global peace, security, a nd sustainable development,” he said.
What is SCO? Who are the members of the country?
The SCO is a permanent intergovernmental international organization, founded on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai. The member countries include China, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus.
The SCO has two observers, Afghanistan and Mongolia, while it has 14 dialogue partner countries, including Turkey, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, and Nepal. Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, Maldives, Myanmar, and the United Arab Emirates are also the dialogue partners of the SCO.
