Afghanistan Earthquake: More than 800 people died

The late-night earthquake in Afghanistan on Sunday, August 31, has caused havoc. The earthquake in eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border was 6.0 on the Richter scale, but it caused massive loss of life and property. According to a Taliban government spokesman, the death toll from this powerful earthquake has risen to more than 800, most of whom are in remote Kunar province. Thousands were also injured.

Tremors were felt in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Nangahar provinces at midnight local time. Several districts in the hilly areas have suffered massive loss of lives and damage.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the 6.0-magnitude earthquake was concentrated 27 km east of the city of Jalalabad in Nangahar province. The epicentre of the earthquake was just 8 km (5 miles) from the ground. About 20 minutes later, the second earthquake struck the same province, which was 4.5, and the depth was 10 kilometers.
